Experience

This page describes my professional experiences. Most recent position is listed at the top.

RDW – Groningen, the Netherlands

January 2025 – present: Software Engineer (team: Vrachtwagenheffing)

After having worked two years in the parking team, I switched to the team responsible for the implementation of heavy goods vehicle toll in 2026.

  • Primarily worked on the implementation of an exemption system, where vehicle owners can request an exemption to the vehicle tax.

March 2024 – February 2025: Software Engineer (team: Parkeren)

One year after staring I moved to an official software engineering position (though my responsibilities did not change).

  • Worked on zero emission zones, in particular a system to determine whether a vehicle needs an exemption to enter such a zone, as well as the necessary business logic to configure such zones in the system.
  • To a lesser extent, I also contributed to the implementation of progressive/regressive parking rates, in addition to maintenance of the existing system.

February 2023 – February 2024: ICT Starter (team: Parkeren)

While still primarily working on my thesis, I started working at the RDW as a software engineer (officially ICT Starter) at a new team.

  • Worked on the digitalisation of disabled parking cards (gehandicaptenparkeerkaarten (GPK) in Dutch), where I was responsible for implementing the necessary business logic.
  • To a lesser extent, I also contributed to maintenance of the existing system, through bugfixes and small feature additions.

July 2022 – August 2022: Software Engineer (team: TVI Middelen)

During the summer of 2022 I spent a few weeks working with my former team.

  • Contributed to the design and rebuilding of an older application, used in the execution of business processes.

April 2021 – August 2021: Intern, then Software Engineer (team: TVI Middelen)

In 2021 I first did a ten-week internship and then kept working during the summer.

  • Contributed to the design and rebuilding of an older application, used to test so-called proc-idents, which are XML messages used in the execution of business processes.

February 2020 – June 2020: Intern, (team: EDS)

As a graduation project, I investigated the existing possibilities to automatically test the accessibility of a web application, based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Based on the findings, I then developed a solution to integrate such tests in CICD pipelines.

Advanced Climate Systems – Leens, the Netherlands

February 2019 – February 2020: App developer (first as intern, then part time)

Both as an intern and part time app developer, I worked an a cross-platform mobile application that used existing APIs to control the climate within a building.
